2009 marked the beginning of the I.P.M.A. distance-learning program. The program allows individuals anywhere to study and earn ranks in the I.P.M.A. curriculum. The online program includes learners from coast to coast and internationally. Online students receive unlimited access to video training in specific exercises that teach the principles, strategies, and methods of Yue Chia, as demonstrated by Kochi Kyo, to Eizo Onishi, to Thomas F. Smith, continuing on through the Scafones and future generations to come.
Studentship and rank advancement involves reading and writing assignments pertaining to one's training experience and personal growth, along with submission of video recordings of one's techniques and forms. One's progress is evaluated by Head Instructors Christopher and Robyn Scafone, who provide regular, personalized feedback to all online students.
